On a drive to work in 2012 I witnessed a glimpse of Heaven and thought it was worth sharing with you. This particular experience came at a difficult time in my life. I had recently & suddenly lost my dad and my husband’s dear grandmother. This revelation on my drive to work opened my eyes and my heart and I have never been the same.

While driving to work, I was at the top of a tall hill and could see all around. The sun was shining on the green hills in bits and pieces and in the distance I could see this beautiful rock outcropping – lit up fully with the sun, as if highlighted on purpose. As I continued my drive, I was completely focused on that rock outcropping. I was surprised to discover that it stayed in front of me during the entire drive.

The funny thing is I had been driving this same way to work for seven years and never before noticed that ledge of rock. How is that even possible? I will tell you how. During my drives to work I had been so focused on what I needed to get done that day or what was troubling my heart that I missed God’s glorious display. How many mornings had I missed this view in those seven years of driving to work? All of them!

After some time of reflection, I am able to put into words what this experience means to me now.

The Rock – It is no secret that the Bible refers to God as our Rock – unchanging, ever faithful, strong enough to handle everything we need, our One True Foundation. This rock had been in my view for seven years – yet I had never seen it. I’m often like that with God too. He has ALWAYS been in my view, yet I have suffered much because I did not SEE Him and did not recognize He is with me. This rock outcropping will forever remind me that God is with me and always has been with me. He is the Rock of my life.

The View – God had blessed me with this view over 1,800 times and I had never ONCE noticed it and stopped to say – “Oh My God, Your Glory is Amazing and I Praise You!” For far too long, had I let this world hold me down and keep my focus from the Everlasting God that tirelessly and unconditionally loves me. He loved me enough to have kept creating that view in front of me even though I didn’t appreciate or even notice it! If God could create that amazing, breathtaking view, how could I not trust Him to handle my worldly problems? He made the world and everything in it – including me. He is beyond fully capable of rescuing me from the world, if I choose to let go of the world.

One last thought on the view: If this is how beautiful Earth is – I can’t hardly imagine the beauty that is Heaven! It makes me envious of those loved ones that have gone before me. I can’t wait to get to Heaven to see Jesus face to face and be reunited with my loved ones in the most glorious beauty ever fathomable!
