We are raised to not trust strangers…but what if the Stranger is God? We often spend time bringing our needs to God and asking for Him to speak into our lives but how much time do we spend getting to KNOW God.

Think of the closest friends and family in your life. You are often able to finish their sentences and many times, when you seek their advice, you already know what they are going to say. We know, recognize and trust the voices of our loved ones because we spend time with them. God desires that same close relationship with you. He desires for us to trust Him implicitly. But, can you trust Him, if He is a virtual stranger? You can, but it is infinitely more difficult.

I don’t want God to be a stranger to me. I desire to spend time with Him so I can know, recognize and trust His voice in my life. So, for the next 30 blogs, I will be focusing on getting to know God. It is my hope that after these 30 blogs, both you and I will have a better understanding of Who God Is and therefore be able to trust Him like we trust our dearest friends and family.

As a guide for our journey, we will be using a resource from The Navigators website called 30 Days of Praying the Names and Attributes of God. I invite you to join in on this journey and invite others to do the same. I invite you to pray each day on the name or attribute that we are focused on and ask God to open your eyes, heart and mind to the truth of who He is. I know that after 30 blogs with getting to know God as our focus He will indeed change our lives. At the very least, we will have a deeper understanding of the God above all other gods, a deeper recognition of His deep love for us and a deeper trust in Him.

So, off we go…

Day 1 – God is Jehovah

Day 1 from the Navigators Guide: “Today’s Name of God is Jehovah. The name of the independent, self-complete being – “I AM WHO I AM” only belongs to Jehovah God. Our proper response to Him is to fall down in fear and awe of the One who possesses all authority.”

In looking at the note from the Navigators’ Guide, it says God is the ONE who possesses ALL authority. Can you comprehend that statement? Our lives are limited and our world operates with many authoritative figures, thus it is hard to imagine one being that is over all the authorities in this world. However, that is exactly who God is and it there is no limit to His authority.

Each of us need to realize, accept and give proper reverence to the one and only God that holds the entire world in His hands. It is ultimately freeing to accept this fact and therefore KNOW that because He holds every part of the world in His hands, He is fully able to handle whatever we turn over to Him. For my part, my deepest desire is for Him to handle my ENTIRE life. I want to live for Him and do what He desires me to do.

Perhaps He is calling you to turn over something to Him. Is there an issue with your job that you can’t seem to sort out? Turn it over to Him. Is there a relationship that is a constant struggle in your life? Turn it over to Him. Is there anything else you are fighting against and feel like you are on the losing side? Turn it over to Him. Turn all your cares over to the ONLY One who can fully handle them for you. Turn them over and breathe the breath of freedom that comes with knowing God’s Got This!

The Bible reference for today is:

Exodus 3:13-15 (NIV)
13 Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?” 14 God said to Moses, “I am who I am.[a] This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’” 15 God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ “This is my name forever, the name you shall call me from generation to generation.”
