Where is your faith placed these days? Do you have faith in our world? Do you have faith in our government or our leadership? Do you have faith in your church or your family? I can confidently say NO to all of those “false faiths” because my faith is placed in the Only One Who is Forever Faithful and who ensures that His Faithfulness is not just another F-word.
This blog is one in a journey of a Getting to Know God series. The names and attributes of God are adapted from a guide on the Navigators website called 30 Days of Praying the Names and Attributes of God. Today’s blog corresponds with the 21st day – God is Faithful.
Today our Navigators’ Guide says this: “God is faithful. Out of His faithfulness God honors His covenants and fulfills His promises. Our hope for the future rests upon God’s faithfulness.”
Our verses for today are:
Psalm 89:1-8 (NIV)
I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations. I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself. You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to David my servant, ‘I will establish your line forever and make your throne firm through all generations.’”
The heavens praise your wonders, Lord, your faithfulness too, in the assembly of the holy ones. For who in the skies above can compare with the Lord? Who is like the Lord among the heavenly beings? In the council of the holy ones God is greatly feared; he is more awesome than all who surround him. Who is like you, Lord God Almighty? You, Lord, are mighty, and your faithfulness surrounds you.
God is faithful, He is faithful indeed. The reason we can be confident in our future is because of God’s faithfulness. He will fulfill His promises to us because He is able, He has the power and He will ALWAYS be faithful. We can fully stand on the faithfulness of God because it does not depend on us. We don’t have to fulfill obligations before God will be faithful to us. What we do need to do, however, is trust in God and trust in His faithfulness and walk confidently into the future.
This trait of God is perfectly timed as I was reminded today about God’s faithfulness in my life. Upon looking back over my years I was completely in awe of what He has done in my life. When I was in my late teen years and into early college I lacked ALL hope. I so lacked hope that I felt life was not worth living and attempted to take my own life. I did a pretty good job of trying to end my life and I know that it is truly only by the grace of God that I am still here today. In looking back at where I was then and where God has led me to today, I can clearly see all the times He was faithful to me, regardless of my lack of faithfulness to Him.
If you were to tell me when I was 18 years old that I would some day live in Oregon, run long road races (as a lifetime asthmatic), write and lead Retreats, teach Bible Studies, teach Christian Yoga and blog about God and what He has done in my life, I would have said you were crazy. I would have likely been overwhelmed at the weight of what was to come and may have kept running from God instead of finally, at 45 years old, walking towards God and towards His plan for my life. God revealed His plan to me piece by piece and I accepted the pieces as I was able. I was only able to accept His direction after I was able to accept His Love and His Peace and recognize His Faithfulness.
I believe that I am literally living proof that God is faithful and I would like to encourage you, no matter where you are right now, that God will be faithful to you as well. If you are having a hard time seeing how God could possibly be faithful in your situation, stop what you are doing. Stop and Pray that God reveal His faithfulness to you.
As you are waiting for deliverance from your current situation, make a list of all the ways that God has been faithful to you in the past. Then reread that list as often as you need in order to remind yourself that God has been faithful to you and He will continue to be faithful. Focus on His Faithfulness and it will lift your eyes to His Love and His Truth and off your storm.
No matter where you are in life, do NOT give up hope!! Government fails, leadership fails, church fails and man fails but God Never Fails. He will be faithful and He is the reason for you to have hope. I encourage you to find a quiet place to invite the Holy Spirit to reveal God’s faithfulness to you, then soak in it until you can take one step towards God and towards His Faithful and Loving arms. Let Him show His Faithfulness to you and reveal His plan for you, one step at a time.
Blessings and love,
Pamela
